Well, I officially leave in five days. It is definitely getting down to the wire! I haven't really started packing; I've mostly been collecting stuff like clothes, gifts, etc. I have no idea what to bring as gifts for my host family, school president or boss. Tick tock, right?
I got my final flight itinerary via e-mail. It looks like I head out July 3rd around 5:30, layover in LAX and then off to Incheon-Seoul International. The flight from LAX to Korea is about 12 hours. I will land at 5:30 a.m. July 5th Korea-time, which is 3:30 p.m. July 4th Chicago-time. Fun fun!
I can check two suitcases and bring two carry-ons. One suitcase I won't see until September (so it should only contain winter stuff). The weather in Korea is similar to Chicago, but more humid (awesome), so I have to pack for four seasons. I will be able to purchase most cosmetics over in Korea as well as any clothing I couldn't fit.
My schedule once I arrive is as follows:
-Six-week orientation program where we will learn the language, culture and how to be a teacher.
-At the end of orientation, we are assigned to a school outside of Soeul
-Early September we move in and begin working!
The orientation packet said that some teachers will have between 500-900 students between the ages of 13 and 15. I will be responsible for teaching conversational English while another teacher (essentially, my boss) will teach formal English such as grammar and sentence structure.
Despite the rapid approach of this trip, I'm not really nervous. That's good, right? Part of me thinks that it hasn't really hit yet. I guess I have five days still.
Well, I suppose that is enough for now. I just thought that I should keep everyone posted on the days leading up to my departure. Thanks for reading!
